This course provides students with the quickest route to communicative competence in English and is organised around the professional tasks and work-related situations of busy executives wishing to improve their English language competency for business related activities.
Practical assignments will draw on the varied interests of the clients themselves and lessons will respect the sophisticated knowledge and expertise of the students, especially in areas such as leadership, innovation and human relationship. The key concepts of the course include topic-based situations that help to reinforce vocabulary, speaking, writing and social English.
Our aim is to offer a flexible approach to the basic interaction patterns used by business people in their work. Topic-based learning units will cover a wide range of business situations, such as using good commercial English in collecting information, drafting reports and preparing presentations, managing a job interview, writing business letters and e-mails, telephone conversations, decision making and problem solving.
On your first day at school, you will have a language placement test to enable us to decide which level of the Business English classes is best for you.

The classes were somehow decent, only because the teachers were trying their best to meet our learning needs; nevertheless, only one teacher was a native English speaker. The rest of them have strong accents (though some of them have beautiful accents); no student wants to learn English with an accent other than that of native speakers. I was stunned to realize that my English was better than that of one of my actual teachers! Sadly, to my liking, the level of English in that school is low. Not to mention that the staff was not friendly at all, most of my classmates did not like to go to the office at all, as it was well known in the school that the staff does not treat students particularly well once they are already enrolled.
Even though I was informed by Language International that I was going to receive extra classes for the two holidays they had during the Holy Week, when I arrived at the school, I was told (in an appalling manner) that they do not do that, as there are many students; however when I insisted and showed them the email from Language International the second week, they agreed to give me the extra classes.
Unbelievably, there is no drinking water or dining facilities available at that school, the activities are too expensive for students, and do not meet the students' expectations (I did not attend school activities, as I was told on my first day that the school activities were not worthy).
Housing (hosting family) was terrifying on my first day; I was scared and felt vulnerable. The day I arrived I gave all my clothes to the lady to wash, it was quite cold, so I requested the hosting father to lend me a sweater, and he started shouting at me as if I had made an indecent proposal to him, LOL. He said: they are not supposed to give me 'things', and he went downstairs and started arguing with his wife. They were arguing for a good while, and of course, I stayed cold the whole day, as those houses do not have heaters either. Quite a frightening experience for any newcomer/student in a country. They were not friendly at all; their English was basic, thus difficult to improve my English by talking to them, though as the days went by, for some reason, their behaviour improved a bit.
Positive points: most of the teachers have a good heart and are willing to help the students. I did learn a bit of new English stuff, but in any way, NOT as I expected! My classmates were nice people from different countries.
Particularly, the growth was more on a personal level than an academic one. Every experience, either good or not too good, is a growing experience.
Thanks for taking the time to review our school. Unfortunately your review is very negative and students who study with us do not share the same opinion as we monitor feedback constantly. Our school has an excellent academic team - praised consistently by students who study with us and needless to mention that we have been in operation for 24 years teaching students from all over the world. Yes we understand there was a misunderstanding regarding the lessons you had to recover because of two public holidays falling o weekdays which is very unusual and as our staff rightly explained we never recover lessons missed on public holidays but we had promised Language Intternational that we will make an exception with you. In the end we gave you the lessons and actually more than you should have taken and still you seem to be ungrateful for that. You are also attacking your host parents in a very rude and arrogant way and we find it very unusual to demand that they wash your clothes on the first day , especially on arrival. Saying that activities are too expensive is absurd and deceiving because a Valletta by night trip costs Euro 15, a half day trip to Mdina, Crafts Village and Dingli Cliffs costs Euro 17 , a trip to Gozo and Comino costs Euro 45. Are these activities expensive? Well they aren't at all. They are actually really cheap and during the week you were in Malta we had really nice trips such as visits to the Good Friday processions on Good Friday, the evening activity on Maundy Thursday and very interesting ones only at Euro 15 per activity and they were attended by many students. Thanks again for taking the time to review the school.
We enrolled our 4 year old son at this school for a week while we were on holiday in Malta. He loved it and was very happy with the teachers. He picked up the language well for just a week course. We will certainly send enroll it again next time we go to Malta.
The facilities look ok, but nothing great. Saying that we were happy with it and the most important thing is that my son was happy with his experience. The location is close to Saint Jillian, we had a car so for us it was quite easy to reach.
Thanks for your review. We are very happy to hear that Armin's experience was a positive experience. We look forward to seeing you and your family again in Malta. Best wishes, the GSE Team.
I studied at Gateway School for two weeks and it was an awesome experience. The teachers were really good and very friendly. Even though I stayed in Malta for just two weeks, thanks to them I was able to improve my English. The classrooms were in good condition, and the school’s location was convenient about a 25-minute walk from where I lived, or only 10 minutes by bus.

I really liked the course. It was really helpful for the improvment of my self and in particular for my anxiety. Thanks the course I tried fearless to parteciped in the lesson. At that moment I wasn't thinking about my pronunciation or grammar mistakes anymore.
I recognize that, every day that passed I tried more and more to parteciped and now I'm more prepared for the lessons in my own school, but at the same I hope that I find a way to continue to practice.
I found really nice too, the way of theaching of my teacher. She had a really good structure and a plan with all the activities she wanted to do with us. In moments, where we did't collaborate she didn't lost the "red line" and continue the lesson with
other activities. I really liked to see in front of me a person with experience and abilities.
I found the activities really good, like the presentation, find advantages and disdvantages of different topics, write two stories, team work and discussion (even if the discussion didn't end so good, but i think is really important and it still needs to be done).
What I didn't like was Kahoot based on geographical facts, I think we could have spend the time with more important activities and didn't relax ourself.
The second thing, I think is important to do, is to see which person is which person in the team work, because the most part of the time I was only with italian, I came from Italy too, and of this reason it was really difficult for me/ us to speak in english. The teacher stop by to check and help for necessity.
Many thanks for your honest feedback. We truly appreciate. Greetings from the team at Gateway School of English GSE
I like the classes, teachers, location, facilities, activities.

The classes were interesting with the use of various forms of learning (audio, video, textbooks, interactive whiteboard). The teacher was able to answer all questions and proceeded at a pace that suited us. The school is in a quiet location, easily accessible by bus, but I always walked about 20 minutes from my accommodation. I arranged my accommodation myself. The only drawback was that the internet was sometimes slow.

My son Alessandro had a one week Young Learner course. The course itselve was good and my son enjoyed it. The teacher had a very strong malties accent that didn't even seam a mother tongue person. Another negative thing that I would like to mention is that english classes were held in a refectory of the residence where just some time before classes people were having breakfast!

Excellent souvenirs during these two weeks. I think I made progress thanks to the teachers and also thanks to the small melting pot group. Small group willing to make progress. From 3 people up tu a maximum of 8 people : this has permit yo share a lot of with our class mates. I really recommend this school. 3 different teachers but all of them really professionnal teachers.

It was great. The teachers were extremly nice. The classes were great help with understanding how The IELTS test work and how to prepare for them. We were also given a lot of materials to work with. I lived in the residance near school. It had gratulujem location because there was supermarket near and you could easily get to the center of the city. The housing was nice. I was nicely suprised by the kitchen. What I didnt like was that I had no idea that you need coins for the AC and money for key deposit. It would be good to know beforehand.

Friendly staff and teachers. Location is hard to reach by foot. The school building is a little outdated. The school is more suitable for young people and beginners.

Thanks for taking the time to review our school. We are located within 12 minutes' walk from Spinola Bay - the main tourist area in St Julian's and a very busy area. Our school's location offers a combination of close proximity to the hustle and bustle of Spinola Bay (nearest beach) but at the same time it's a quiet and peaceful location with large open spaces around ideal for studying.
We do not understand what you mean by the school's building is outdated. The school building is a traditional Maltese building with limestone and it also has modern architectural features and all our classrooms are equipped with the latest classroom technology. We have just installed the latest Interactive Hitachi StarBoard technology in ALL our classrooms so we definitely do not agree with your statement.
We have high level students who choose to study with us at higher levels such as Advanced and Business English students as well as English for Professional purposes mainly medical English, legal English, English for Engineering, Aviation English and other ESP courses.
Thanks again for reviewing our school.
it is a school which is well located: not very far from saint Julien. the general atmosphere of the courses is pleasant, we study in class by doing rather playful group work. the teachers are friendly and professional.

Finally, I proposed to the teacher to come in my hotel and it was a good option. When I started, my teacher was sick and I had two differents teachers for the two first day. Unfortunately, they didn't know what I would improve and the courses weren't ready. We found a solution but I lost time... It wasn't really what I've expected. Althought, teachers are good and friendly !

I didn't like at all the accomodation.
.
That's very surprising as we used to see you enjoying your time at the GSE residence with other students on the patio and you used to thank the GSE staff for the cleanliness. This is a very decieiving review!
The teachers were nice, but the classes were not adapted to my level and to my age. I'm fifteen years old, and was in classes with adults (one of the student was around 70 years old...)
It wasn't fun at all and my English didn't improve.
Dear Cleo, thanks for submitting the review. We had initially placed you in Pre-Intermediate based on your placement test result but you found the level too difficult and your mother asked us to move you to a lower level which we did. Our Director of Studies then spoke to you after classes to make sure that you are comfortable in that level and your answer was positive. As you know you only spent a week at our school, 5 days. We had other teenagers in April especially during Easter but we placed you in the adult class to guarantee your level as the other teenagers were of a higher level. We also encouraged you to join activities as we had a lot of activities during that week and this was a great opportunity for you to improve your English with other teens outside the classroom. You never attended the activities for some reason and I think this would have been an opportunity for you to practise English outside the classroom with other teenagers.
Have you ever heard of an English Summer school that places in the same hotel room all guys of the same nationality? (in our case Italians). GSE did it, despite I specifically asked to place my son in a multi-nationality room (and they answered "Of course, we always do it") and despite it's common sense to mix nationalities, in order to push the guys to speak English during their free time as well. They pretended to be surprised in front of my request to move my son in another room (and they pretended not to remember my request and they didn't do it.
Good teachers, but very bad organization with impacts on the quality of the English learning experience.
Dear Maria Grazia, thanks for the review. You failed to mention that your son was booked on a summer junior programme and staying at the Topaz Hotel where some of our junior students were staying. It happened to be the case that this year we had a lot of Italian students, unlike the previous years, so the majority of students in the hotel were Italians. The allocation is not entirely the responsibility of the school but the hotel. We can advise the hotel to mix nationalities as much as possible however this is always at the discretion of the hotel (third party accommodation) as this is not the property of the school unlike the GSE residence for adults. As I mentioned previously the majority of the students staying at Topaz were Italians which made it difficult for us to mix nationalities. Then came the sudden closure of schools by the Maltese government which also made it it difficult for other groups to come to Malta and had to cancel their trip. So it was impossible for us to mix your son with other nationalities in a different room.
My personal experience at Gateway School was very, very good! I improved my English a lot because the teachers were very patient and kind. the atmosphere in the classroom was very pleasant. For the accommodation I loved sharing my room in the school residence I met a lot of people from different countries! I recommend this school for the French because there are really very few which allow you to speak English every day. it is a wonderful experience to learn English of course but also a magical human experience. Thank you !

I liked the experience, great teachers. I was not at the student residence because I thought it limited my contact with the locals and I was right, that is, if you want to stay away from the school it is quiet, as the city is very accessible and safe.
